GRAFFITI
Graffiti covered walls encourage further vandalism and damage leading to an
impression of deterioration and dereliction, all negative factors in a working
environment.
Generally speaking light surfaces attract more graffiti than dark, while plain
and smooth surfaces are more vulnerable than patterned or textured.
A number of products are available, including anti-graffiti and sacrificial
overcoatings, drying-retardant and textured coatings as well as proprietary
and mechanical graffiti removers.
Personnel using graffiti removal products should be trained in their use and
storage of substances must be in accordance with the manufacturers instructions
and relevant controls.
Buildings which are well maintained are less likely to be vandalised compared
with those which are neglected or poorly repaired. It is therefore vital that
all premises, even those which are temporarily empty, are repaired promptly
and generally well looked after.
