DOCUMENTS

Business documents are often a target for thieves and fraudsters, it is therefore important that control under lock and key is exercised over important documentation, which may include:

> Cheque books

> Bank statements

> Credit and debit cards

> Bank details

> Blank invoices

> Company stamps and seals

> Letterheads

> Order forms

Think carefully about how documents are kept secure. Forced entry to a safe can result in the total destruction of records vital to your company, but which are no use whatsoever to a criminal.

When dealing with your bank on the telephone, ensure your staff do so away from where they may be overheard, as many offences are attempted by opportunists who overhear instructions being given to a bank.

In all staff dealings with your bank, ensure that they are satisfied with the identity of the caller, and never disclose your bank details to telephone callers, especially personal identification numbers (PINs).
