SECURE AREAS

Secure areas will resist a sustained attack by any means for 10 minutes, excluding the use of power tools and flame cutters.

Ideally, these areas should be protected by an intruder alarm system.

It is often difficult and costly to convert an existing storeroom to meet this requirement, so it is recommended that purpose-built stores be considered.

If it is not possible to make an entire building into a secure area, separate areas can be constructed within a building for the storage of high value property. These should ideally be away from exterior walls to prevent ram attacks and constructed using techniques outlined in paragraphs previously described in Perimeter protection and External walls.

And remember, if you go to the trouble of creating a secure area within your building, ensure it is fully utilised.
