LOCKS AND KEYS

Good quality, five lever mortice locks to British Standard BS 3621 should be fitted to all external doors.

When door hinges are exposed on the exterior of the building it is recommended that hinge bolts be fitted.

There is a wide range of multi point locking devices on the market, which can offer a high degree of security.

In order to reduce the number of keys needed to gain entry to all parts of the premises keys may be suited (pronounced 'sweeted'). This means that staff requiring access to all parts of the premises can be issued with a single grand master key which would open every door.

Keys issued to other members of staff would restrict their access to those parts of the premises where they were authorised to go, eg their own workshop or office.
